Reflections on Day One

We arrived in San Francisco after several glitches, like being dropped off at the wrong hotel and having to walk a few blocks, the hotel rooms being all the wrong way around and lengthy delays in LAX. The best thing about all of this was the kids! They were simply amazing. There were no complaints, lots of smiles and laughter and a great, easy going attitude. We are so very proud of our students!

This morning as we gathered in the lobby before walking down to Denny's Diner for breakfast, the students shared their favourite memories of the Long Commute.

Nicky - recalled our experience going through immigration - whilst waiting for Miss Kightley to be searched we witnessed a lady being dropped to the ground because she wasn't following directions and had something of concern in her bag. It was like watching Border Security live! It filled the time while we waited for Miss Kightley to be released.

Mr Arthur remembered the chocolate mousse with salted caramel that we were seved on the flight. It was yummy - and a favourite memory for all. Lucky Mrs Arthur was served two! Kayla's highlight on the flight was being given 12 packets of cheese and biscuits - to share with her friends. And everyone enjoyed the potato and rosemary pizzas served at midnight.

Miss Kightley was impressed with the six US Air Marshalls who boarded our flight on arrival at the terminal. They escorted off a passenger. When asked if this was a normal or regular occurrence, the flight steward said no, but that aggressive and defiant behaviour would not be tolerated.

Everyone enjoyed our nap on the floor of LAX, sadly most photos were deleted in protest! We were all grateful that our flight wasn't cancelled and our itinerary could go on, as planned.

Adjusting to cultural changes saw Madison calling maintenance to get the shower working. It turned out all she had to do was lift the lever in the tap. A funny moment.

For everyone, sleeping in a real bed was fabulous, after 32 hours on the road.
